Trevor Howard

Trevor Howard (Board Member since 2022, President since 2025) National Manager, Prescribed Burning Strategy, Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC).  Based at the Bushfire Centre of Excellence in Western Australia, Trevor leads national capability development for prescribed burning and supports rural fire services, land management agencies and non-government organisations with continual improvement. Commencing in forestry in 1975, Trevor’s career has included operational and senior roles in fire management across Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.  With a background in prescribed burning, wildfire suppression, aviation, incident management, and state, national and international coordination, Trevor has developed expertise in managing risk and safety, post-incident reviews, and submissions to major inquiries.  He also has extensive experience in working with pastoralists, Indigenous groups and remote communities throughout northern and central Australia and building productive relationships across sectors. Trevor is Chair of the North Australia Fire Managers Network, the inaugural and former Chair of the Fire Aviation Sub-Committee of the Interagency Bushfire Operations Committee of Western Australia, and a past Member of the National Council of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology.  His professional education includes Master of Rangeland Management, Master of Sustainable Agriculture, Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology) and Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Firefighting Management) and well as risk management and corporate governance.
