Trevor Howard (Board Member since 2022, Vice President since 2024) National Manager, Prescribed Burning Strategy, Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC). Based at the DFES Bushfire Centre of Excellence in Western Australia, Trevor leads national capability development for prescribed burning and supports land management agencies and rural fire services with continual improvement.  Trevor is also a Duty Manager for the National Resource Sharing Centre, managing interstate and international deployments.  Commencing in forestry in 1975, Trevor’s career in fire, land management and emergency services has included operational and senior roles across Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.  This experience includes working with traditional owners, pastoralists and remote communities throughout northern and central Australia and representing multiple jurisdictions on the North Australia Fire Managers Group.  In Western Australia from 2008, Trevor led the statewide adoption of ISO31000 for prescribed burn planning and implementation at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, where he also managed post-incident reviews and submissions to major inquiries.  During that time, he had state-level responsibilities for operational preparedness, the delivery of prescribed burn programs, bushfire suppression, incident management, multi-agency coordination and strategic command.  He was Chair of the Fire Aviation Sub-committee of the Interagency Bushfire Operations Committee.  Trevor has degrees of Master of Rangeland Management, Master of Sustainable Agriculture and Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology) as well as qualifications in risk, safety, fire and emergency management.
