Trevor Howard

Trevor Howard (Board Member since 2022) National Manager – Prescribed Burning Strategy, Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC), based at the DFES Bushfire Centre of Excellence at Nambeelup, Western Australia.  Commencing in forestry in 1975, Trevor has extensive experience in land management, fire and emergency services across several states including Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.  His career has included engaging with traditional owners, Aboriginal rangers and remote communities as well as operational, incident management and strategic command roles.  Trevor is a former Member of the National Council of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology and has also represented multiple jurisdictions on the North Australia Fire Managers Group.  He was Chair of the Fire Aviation Subcommittee of the Interagency Bushfire Operations Committee of Western Australia while working at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.  Trevor also led the adoption of ISO 31000 for prescribed burn planning and implementation and had state-level responsibilities for operational preparedness, delivering prescribed burning programs, bushfire suppression and multiagency emergency management.  With qualifications in public safety, anthropology, agriculture and rangeland management, Trevor has a strong interest in the sustainable use and management of natural resources, and a passion for the human dimensions of wildland fire.
