Steve Lemon is the recipient of the 2025 Wildland Fire Safety Award Steve has had a long and respected career with the British Columbia Wildfire Service, where his name has become synonymous with safety. His dedication to improving safety includes numerous roles and in over 30 years of service he has made an enormously positive impact on firefighter wellbeing and safety culture at every level. Steve's journey has been both broad and deep. He began with the parattack program and his contributions to teaching safety include New Recruit Boot Camp, Fire Behaviour, Danger Tree Assessor, Provincial Crew Leader Camp, Resilient Minds, and Facilitated Learning. He has held various leadership positions, including Plans Chief, Unit Leader and Safety Officer. Through his dedication, continuous professional development, and ability to inspire others, Steve has developed a safety program that is now an integral part of the British Columbia Fire Service and has set a standard for wildfire agencies across Canada. He fully understands that safety is not just about preventing injury but about fostering a culture where well-being, mental health, and support are embedded in all aspects of wildfire operations.
