Presented by the International Association of Wildland Fire

October 25 - 26, 2012

About the Wildland Fire Safety SummitTM

Since 1997, the Wildland Fire Safety Summit has been the gathering place for members of the international wildland fire community to focus on safety: to discuss significant events and trends in safety, to promote best practices in safety training and operations, to reveal safety related research findings, and to explore new approaches to safety.

About the Conference Theme

This year’s theme, “Promoting the Story of Wildland Fire Safety” highlights the importance of story and narrative in safety training, operations, research, and organizational learning. “From the local to the global” calls forth the story of safety from the entire spectrum of the global wildland fire community: from the individual, the crew, the incident, the local community, the agency, the region, the state, the nation, the continent, to the entire hemisphere.

Who Should Attend

The Wildland Fire Safety Summit will present all “students of fire” with valuable information and networking opportunities:

  • Wildland Firefighters
  • Fire Managers
  • Fire Chiefs
  • Fire Aviation Specialists
  • Agency Administrators
  • Land Managers
  • Public Officials
  • Fire Researchers
  • Social Scientists

Silent Auction Call for Donations

The International Association of Wildland Fire will be holding a silent auction at our 11th International Wildland Fire Safety Summit in order to raise money for the Wildland Firefighters Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and assists injured firefighters and their families. This year, we’re hoping that you will join in on the FUNdraising! Do you have firefighting memorabilia you could donate to our silent auction? We’re looking for anything from patches, pins, baseball caps, belt buckles, and books to Smokey the Bear items and other collectibles. So, dig through those old trunks and dust off that long-lost memorabilia – then bring any items you find to the Summit, along with a business card to help us identify who donated them. For more information or if you have any questions, please send an email to safetysummit@iawfonline.org

Although the Silent Auction benefitting the Wildland Firefighter's Foundation is still 3 months away, here's a short list of some of the items already donated:

  1. Smokey Bear Baseballs;
  2. A Smokey Bear Hockey Puck;
  3. A 1986 Northeast Oregon Fires Award Belt Buckle;
  4. A vintage Fireline Handbook (1998);
  5. The "Fireman's Guide" book (1986 reprint);
  6. Old USFS shoulder patches (large and small) that took a unit "Rocker ID";
  7. Numerous fire agency patches, both US and International;
  8. "World Fire" by Steve Pyne.
